HP Color LaserJet 1600 Review
Looking for a color laser printer for less than $300? How about one that wins Editor’s choice at PC Magazine? Sounds too good to be true doesn’t it? The HP 1600 is an awesome choice for a personal color laser printer for the home or any size office.
"Output quality is one of the 1600’s strong points. It will handle any text you’re likely to print, with quality that’s in shooting distance of the best I’ve seen. On our tests, all but one of our test fonts were easily readable at 5 points with crisp, well-formed characters. Several were easily readable at 4 points, and only one stylized font with thick strokes needed 10 points.
Graphics are easily good enough for any internal business use, and I’d feel comfortable giving them to an important client or potential client in anything short of an advertising handout. The one significant flaw I saw was a slight misregistration between the various toner colors, leaving a thin slice of white between some bordering blocks of solid color. Photos tend to be a little oversaturated, with slightly muddy colors in some cases and an obvious tint in our monochrome photo. Overall, however, photo quality is better than most color laser printers can manage and easily good enough for things like client newsletters and printing Web pages."
